The Palaszczuk Government has called on eligible Toowoomba construction companies to tender for the construction of a new social housing complex in Rangeville.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the project, which will include the construction of 16 one-bedroom apartments, will be delivered as part of the Queensland Government’s $1.8 billion Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027.
“Six of the units will be built to the Platinum Level of Liveable Housing Design Guidelines to accommodate residents with mobility impairment, with features like wider doorways and halls, lever taps and hobless showers,” Mr de Brenni said.
“As well as increasing social housing availability in the region, the project is part of a strong pipeline of work that will help support the residential construction industry in Toowoomba and support jobs for local tradies.
“Through the strategy’s Housing Construction Jobs Program, we’re investing $24 million to build 58 social housing dwellings in the Toowoomba region over the first five years.
“This investment will see work for small, medium and large construction businesses, supporting the equivalent of 13 full time local jobs each year over the five years.”
