Lockhart River is set to receive upwards of $4 million in Government grants thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s $70 million local government infrastructure and jobs boost that was revealed early in 2016.
Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ministerial Champion for Lockhart River Mark Bailey announced that the funding had been awarded for a significant upgrade to Portland Road.
Mr Bailey spoke of the projects importance to region, and some of its specifics.
“We know how important great infrastructure is to the community and these grants mean that the council will be able to deliver this infrastructure,” Mr Bailey said.
“This is great news achieved in record time, with a new process implemented this year which meant projects were assessed in just weeks, enabling important disaster resilience initiatives to kick off before storm season.
“The Government has allocated $4,047,000 to Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council to upgrade Portland Road between Pascoe Farms Road and Garraways Creek, which is the only access into Lockhart River Community.
“These vital infrastructure works will increase the road’s resilience to flood damage through sealing, pavement raising, and the construction of stormwater crossings and a diversion channel.
“This project is vital to the well-being of the community as upgraded infrastructure also increases the liveability of the region.”
